Bamburgh.

18th March 2009

I don’t do myself any great favours with Bamburgh Castle.

I think because it’s often the halfway point on the coast that I tend to shoot when I’m in this area, I always tend to visit around the middle of the day. It’s just not the best time to shoot this location really.

I think I need to come back in the early morning but I like to shoot in other places at dawn so I’ve never given Bamburgh a proper chance.

On this occasion the tide was well out so I concentrated on the beautiful beach and left the castle in the background.

They’re not yet the pictures that I really want from this place but I’ve only myself to blame really.

It’s become a bit of a cliché I suppose that the best landscapes are taken in the golden hours around dawn and dusk.

It’s not entirely true and in fact there are many fine examples taken under the midday sun.

However, as I look through my own images I can tell that there is a great deal of sense in that maxim and it’s why I always have a very clear idea of where I want to be at each end of the day.

My next stop on this trip is Lindisfarne which I wanted for both dawn and dusk but I will be coming back in the summer for another trip to the Farne Islands.
